Tobacco Action Groups
Tobacco Action Groups (TAGs) are groups set up in secondary schools
to give young people the chance to decide for themselves what needs
to be done about smoking in their schools and communities.
Pupils are able to work with teachers, health promotion officers,
trading standards officers and local businesses to develop action
plans for tackling smoking problems in their area.
There are currently 5 TAGs in Swansea and 5 TAGs in Gwynedd. It
is hoped that the scheme will be expanded in the future.
Following successful workshops in Swansea and Gwynedd in April
2000, the first ever Tobacco Action Groups Conference was held in
Cardiff on 19th October, 2000.
The TAGs have been set up with funding from GlaxoSmithKline and
Barnardo's as part of their RightFit initiative.
