Smokefree Class Competition

Be Smart - Don't Start!

 

The European Commission is not responsible for any of the Smokefree Class Competition content on this website.

Smokefree Class Competition is a Europe wide competition for children in Years 7&8. It takes place annually and currently involves 19 different countries.

In 2000-01, 525 classes from 87 schools in Wales took part.

In 2001-02, children from 560 classes took part, some 13,487 pupils.

In 2002-03, 14,957 pupils participated from 586 classes in 99 schools.

In 2003-04, 13,453 pupils participated from 543 classes in 106 schools.

In 2004-05, 16,141 pupils participated from 632 classes in 122 schools.

In 2005-06 14,589 pupils participated from 612 classes in 136 schools.

In 2006-07, 12,081 pupils participated from 488 classes in 140 schools.

In 2007-08, 13,277 pupils participated from 542 classes in 114 schools

Pupils enter as a class and pledge not to smoke for the competition period. Successful classes are entered in regular Prize Draws and can win cash for their schools. In 2002-03, one class won a trip to Brussels.
