Health Behaviour in School-aged Children

Data on Smoking

The Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study is supported by the World Health Organization and involves many countries across Europe and North America. Data are collected every two years on a wide range of health behaviours

Data have been collected for 11-16 year olds since 1986, through Wales’ participation in the Study. The results from the 1998 HBSC study "Health and Health Behaviour among Young People" were recently published in the WHO Policy Series, Health policy for children and adolescents. The full report (and further information about the HBSC study) can be downloaded from the HBSC website.

Summarised information relating to smoking among school-aged children from the HBSC study, both in Wales and internationally, have been used in the Nic'n'Tina interactive area. The following spreadsheets (.csv format) can be downloaded for use in other exercises in the classroom.
